Specchi Magici is an artist-run non profit organization focused on fostering introspection through collaboration with artists and the production of mirror objects.
Based in Berlin and Milan, the work spans art, architecture, design, and psychology. Specchi Magici creates unconventional mirrors that defy categorization as either design or art objects. The inaugural piece, Mirror/Vase—serving as both a wall mirror and vase—was envisioned by Riccardo Paratore, the founder.
The journey began during the pandemic, inspired by artists who explored furniture design. Motivated by a quest for artistic expression and collaboration, the mission is to infuse the world with more light in challenging times.
Each mirror collaboration at Specchi Magici is a limited edition of 100 pieces, ensuring uniqueness. Prices may vary over time based on availability and production costs, maintaining the integrity of creations while reflecting the evolving artistic process.
Every collaborator gets to choose either a local community service initiative or a humanitarian aid project abroad. The aim is to secure donors for each production and enhance the support provided to the chosen causes through each mirror sale.
The origins of Specchi Magici date back to 2015, when I created a wall mirror that also functioned as a vase, featuring a small opening on the back to hold a flower stem. Despite facing some initial engineering challenges, the piece has evolved significantly with the help of an engineer and my psychoanalyst. I’ve revisited and refined this work.
The pandemic underscored the importance of mental and structural stability, drawing inspiration from resilient artists who faced similar challenges. This led to the establishment of Specchi Magici, marking a natural progression in my journey with a focus on collaboration and independence.
